Brims Tidal Array

The Brims Tidal Array, formerly known as Cantick Head, is a tidal-lease area off south-west Orkney.

Development status: There is no current development at the site.

Why the site is useful: Brims is a useful feasibility case for combining deep-water engineering constraints with detailed resource and array-layout studies. Its former Cantick Head identity also makes it relevant when comparing historic lease and development records with the current site definition.

Site challenges: Water depths of approximately 70–100 m present demanding foundation, installation, and operations requirements. The site is also affected by vortices generated off Swona, adding flow variability to turbine and array design.
