Westray South

Westray South is a tidal-lease area in Westray Firth, Orkney.

Development status: The site is under development by Orbital Marine Power. See the Westray tidal-array project record.

Why the site is useful: Westray South is relevant to the transition from demonstration turbines to a commercial array. It offers a case for assessing array-scale energy yield, wake effects, export infrastructure, and the interaction between technology choice and practical marine operations.

Site challenges: Progressing an array from development to operation requires managing the energetic tidal resource alongside array layout, grid connection, marine logistics, and environmental consenting.
